Tuesday's Ohio election results are unofficial, and counties have up to 21 days to certify them

Early returns in four statewide races showed tight margins with 28% of precincts reporting

RaceDemocratRepublican
Attorney generalKulewicz 50.3%Faber 49.6%
AuditorBlackwell 49.4%LaRose 50.6%
TreasurerWalsh 50.4%Edwards 49.6%
Secretary of stateRusso 50.6%Sprague 46.8%

If you went to bed before the count settled, you're in good company. Secretary of State Frank LaRose says Election Night is just the start of a bipartisan verification process. County boards review the day after, and eligible military and overseas ballots that arrive within four days are counted.

At 9:25 p.m. Tuesday, statewide races for attorney general, auditor and treasurer were neck and neck with 28% of precincts reporting. Lucas County hadn't started reporting after a bomb threat at a Toledo polling location kept polls open late.

  • Recount: automatic if a statewide margin is under 0.25 percent
  • Audits: counties hand-count selected paper ballots and compare totals
  • Data center bans: Urbana 73%, Trenton 77% in early votes

In the Dayton-area 10th District, partial early results had political newcomer Kristina Knickerbocker ahead of U.S. Rep. Mike Turner. The AP also called Jim Jordan's reelection in the 4th District.

Counties verify results over three weeks

  1. Day afterCounty officials review to determine voter eligibility.
  2. 5-15 daysCounty boards of elections begin the official canvass.
  3. 21 daysBoards must finish the canvass and certify results by this deadline.
