Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 30th of October.
Good morning, Beavercreek.
🎓 Education
Learn to Earn's Dayton model inspired Ohio's Regional Education Partnerships initiative, and on Thursday Gov. DeWine and local leaders met in the Miami Valley to review early data, discuss challenges, and urge sustaining the regional partnerships (12 regions) that support students from cradle to the workforce.
🏛️ Government
Ohio will get $8,076,105 from a $220 million settlement with General Motors after allegations it sold drivers’ behavior and location data collected through its Smart Driver (2016 to 2024); under the deal GM must obtain express consent, limit data collection, and strengthen privacy controls.
🏥 Health
Mammograms can show breast arterial calcifications that raise a woman’s risk of heart disease and stroke by about 51%, so radiologists now flag these findings on mammogram reports and doctors may recommend heart-risk follow-up (they are benign and not breast cancer).
White House advisor Kathryn Burgum visited Emerge Recovery & Trade Initiative in Xenia to tour its 45-acre, 150,000 sqft campus and join a roundtable on reducing stigma, creating second chances, and building job pathways for people in recovery.
🏈 Sports
Wright State will add Premier Health's logo as the exclusive jersey patch across all 14 Division I programs, expanding a partnership that covers athlete care and health education.
Fans will see the new uniforms on Nov. 2 at the Nutter Center when men's basketball opens vs. Air Force (that game is sold out).
