American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

About this event

Earn your American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification at the YMCA and prepare for lifeguard employment in a safe, supportive, and hands-on learning environment. This course prepares participants to help keep guests safe and respond effectively during aquatic emergencies.

The YMCA offers both part-time and full-time lifeguard positions , seasonally and year-round. Participants must be at least 15 years old and able to complete a pre-course swim test successfully .

Course Schedule

(Participants must attend all sessions)

Thursday: 5:00–9:00 pm Friday: 5:00–9:00 pm Saturday: 10:00 am–6:00 pm Sunday: 10:00 am–6:00 pm

Course Format & Requirements

• Blended learning course (online + in-person)

• Approximately 6–7 hours of online coursework must be completed before the first in-person session

• Online modules include videos and quizzes

• Participants will receive an email from the American Red Cross with instructions once enrolled

Prerequisites

• Minimum age: 15 years

• Must complete all pre-course swim skills

• Must be able to attend all in-person sessions

• Participants who do not meet prerequisites will not be permitted to continue for safety reasons

Certification

Participants who complete all requirements will earn the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification , which is recognized nationwide.

YMCA Employment Perk: Lifeguarding certification is free with YMCA employment .
